Radius Opera approached us to help define their brand, and create a visual identity. Adventurous, unconventional and most certainly uncompromising, Radius is an opera company for grown-ups who want to be challenged.

The tagline – New opera. That makes you think. – should be said with a Yorkshire twang. Although the company tours to venues and festivals all over the place, Radius Opera is proudly based in Yorkshire, and works primarily with local artists.

Identity-wise, bold use of classy, elegant serif font Vidaloka gives an artisanal look that’s stylish and current without being trendy.

Radius Opera logo

The logo features the visual hook – a keyline that runs to the halfway point of the ‘O’ of opera. Simple, while at the same time suggesting a strong personality.

Every Radius production has a cinematic hero image, so we’ve made that a feature of posters and programme covers. Imagery is balanced by strong typography, a bespoke colour – and that keyline ‘radius’ across the page.

Radius Opera poster style

As part of the visual identity, we designed a skeleton UI (user interface) for the website. A robust, well-considered design framework includes room for a focus on showcasing the company’s imagery; with visual links peppered throughout the design.

This is not a company who produce lots of work every year, so the homepage has a super-flexible hero space. It can be used to promote shows, house clear company messaging when no productions are on tour, then easily switch to ‘fundraising mode’ during key campaigns.
