UX/UI Designer

Help us design elegant, accessible websites for leading arts and cultural organisations

An orange heart

Role: UX/UI Designer
Salary: £30-35k – depending on experience
Location: Fully-remote team (UK-based)
Type: Permanent, full-time, flexible hours

Apply by Mon 7 October

Our remote team is dotted all over the UK, and we’re looking for an experienced UX/UI Designer to join our Climate Action Workforce 🌳

As well as someone with a keen eye for design, and experience creating elegant and efficient UX/UI, we’re looking for the right person – an intelligent self-starter who enjoys a challenge, takes pride in their work, and is always keen to improve.

👉 How to apply

We're particularly keen to hear from people who're currently under-represented in the tech industry. (And we want to hear from applicants directly – so no recruitment/outsourcing companies thanks!)

Is this you?

You're passionate about design and user experience, and have a great eye for design detail. You enjoy creating and presenting elegant and efficient solutions to complex problems – always with the end user in mind.

With around 2-3 years of agency experience in UX/UI design, you have a strong understanding of web development, digital accessibility, and user behaviour. You feel confident sharing work, and talking through concepts, solutions, and challenges – with fellow designers, developers, other colleagues, and clients.

Day-to-day, you’re comfortable moving between quick-turnaround design fixes and big, slower-paced projects. You can manage your own time and to-do list – but enjoy being an active part of a friendly team focused on designing the most accessible, sustainable, and inclusive websites.

A good communicator over Slack and video calls, working from home will suit you nicely. And you have a decent internet connection! You're fluent in spoken and written English, and you live and have the right to work in the UK.

Job description

As well as working on existing client websites, you'll be heavily involved in the design of new websites – from initial concepts, through to creating a full set of high-fidelity design components – using Figma.

Additionally you'll:

  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure that design solutions meet both organisational and end user requirements
  • Be involved in, and sometimes lead, discussions about design and user experience – with both colleagues and clients
  • Create/collaborate on prototyping and user testing
  • Play a role in making sure our design processes are smooth and efficient
  • Contribute to wider discussions about the role of UX/UI in improving digital accessibility and sustainability

(This is a design role, so we don't expect you to know how to code. But you do need a good level of understanding of front end web development.)

You may not have previous experience with everything in this job description, but if the role seems right for you – and vice versa – do consider applying.

About Supercool

Hello! We're a friendly team of problem-solvers, based all over the UK, who create websites that make life easier for arts and cultural organisations – and their audiences.

Accessibility-focused

A belief that art and culture are for everyone runs through all that we do, so we have a strong focus on accessibility.

A 100% remote team

We all work from home, so are heavy users of Slack and video calls day-to-day, and meet in person once a year or so. We can provide financial support to help you set up a home office if you need it, as well as providing a laptop and other equipment you need to succeed in the role.

We care about your work/life balance

Standard work days are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm, and we offer flexible working outside of core hours (10am-4pm). Though we try and stick to these hours, sometimes you'll be needed at other times. If you're asked to work outside of your normal hours, you'll get Time Off In Lieu. (This should be a given, but isn't always!)

Learning = good!

We support and encourage professional development – making time for R&D as part of the team, as well as self-directed learning. If you're interested in doing a course or would like to attend a conference; holler! We're excited by new developments in tech, and everyone’s ideas and input help to shape the company and how we work.

Meet the team 👋

Passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced, we're a mix of developers, designers, digital strategists, and data geeks. Meet the folks you'll be working with over on the About page.

The process

Once we've reviewed your application:

1. Video presentation

If your application demonstrates strong design skills and suitability for the role, we’ll ask you to send us a 5-8 minute video.

In this video, we'd like you to present the digital design that you're most proud of. (We'll provide you with more information about this in advance, and will allow plenty of time for you to put this together.)

2. Interview

If shortlisted, we'll invite you for a 1-hour interview – via video call – on Wed 23 or Thu 24 October. We'll talk in more detail about the role, and your experience, skills, and ambitions. (Interview questions will be shared with you in advance, so you'll have time to prepare.)

There may be follow-up questions after the interview.

3. Design task

If the interview goes well, we'll ask you to complete a short design-related task. This task will be related to the role, and designed to help us understand your approach to problem-solving.

We'll keep you informed of your progress in a timely manner, and won't keep you hanging on.

If you have specific access requirements, let us know – we're happy to discuss alternative ways of applying/interviewing.
