Supercool's Sustainability Action Plan 2026
3 March 2026
We’re not experts – and we’re certainly not perfect – but we are big advocates for environmental sustainability.
Through our ongoing initiative of sustainability-related actions, we're learning a lot and doing what we can to make a positive difference. By sharing what we're learning and doing, we're hoping to help others do the same.
Following on from our 2025 sustainability actions update, here's what we plan to work on throughout 2026:
2026 Action Plan
✅ Commemorate Supercool's 22nd Anniversary
To commemorate our milestone 22nd anniversary, in January 2026 we funded 22m² of wildflowers, wetlands, and wildlife projects across the UK to support biodiversity, and 1 tonne of carbon removal in Ethiopia (via Ecologi).
Investigate external evaluation of our own impact
As a company, we have a carbon footprint. Since 2020 we've measured that carbon footprint, and kept it updated as we've grown. This has given us a decent idea of Supercool's 'per person per day' carbon emissions. However, we've reached a team size, and point in time, where it feels right to commission an external evaluation of our environmental impact.
Research alternative tools / suppliers
Based on their responses to our regular check-ins, asking suppliers about their environmental policies and actions, we'll research alternatives to companies that have been unable to demonstrate that they share our values on sustainability.
Increase group advocacy and knowledge-sharing
Last year we joined the Theatre Green Book and Royal Ballet and Opera Sustainable Suppliers group. (Which met online early this year, to share the things we’re doing with other suppliers to the cultural sector.) We're keeping an eye out for other, similar knowledge-sharing and advocacy groups – let us know if you know of any: katie@supercooldesign.co.uk
Help our clients to advocate for sustainable travel
We’ve been wondering how we could potentially help our clients to influence and inspire their audiences to travel more sustainably. This could be as simple as website messaging, or using tools (either existing, or something we build) to help people's understanding.
Publish / highlight clearer sustainability guidance
We’ve been writing about our sustainability-related actions for several years. And because we’ve shared a lot – and continue to do so – the most helpful information has become quite hidden.
So, we’ve decided that we need to make it easier for people to find the practical information that’ll be most helpful for them to become more digitally sustainable.
This may take the form of a guidelines / checklist document – to help clients and fellow suppliers to understand where they can make the biggest impact in terms of their websites. Or updating our sustainability resource hub, to make the most useful, practical information easier to find. Or – most likely – a mixture of both.
And we’ll continue to:
👍 Improve the work we create with – and for – clients in terms of sustainability
As mentioned in our 2025 Sustainability Update, this is an ongoing action. Some of the things we’re looking to work on this year include:
- Sustainability ‘check-ins’ throughout projects
- Create a ‘Sustainable website check-list’ for our Designers and Developers, probably based on W3C guidelines
- Continuing to measure the carbon footprints of websites we build
🧐 Ask suppliers about their environmental policies and actions
It’s important to us that we work with other businesses that share our values, and understand the importance of sustainability in their day-to-day work.
🙌 Plant / conserve trees for every new website we launch
Recent launches include: Benslow Music, Royal Court, and Donmar.
🌳 Fund trees and support verified carbon avoidance projects
We do this every month, and for each and every member of the Supercool team, as part of being a Climate Action Workforce through Ecologi.
🫶 Hold regular Sustainability Working Group meetings
To check in on our Action Plan progress, and suggest new ideas. We also share what we've achieved, and what we'll be working on next, with everyone else at our full-team Quarterly Catch-Up meetings.
🧡 Freely share what we're doing – and what we're learning along the way
Talking openly about this stuff helps to keep us accountable, spreads the knowledge, and encourages others – the team, our clients, sector organisations, sector suppliers, and our peers – to tread more lightly on the planet.
